Lingonberry Maca Smoothie Bowl

Lately I've been adding maca powder to everything. Well not literally everything, but to all of my smoothies. We could call it my latest obsession. I'm not sure what it is about this superfood powder. I just really like it, even the taste that some people diss. 

Have you never heard about maca? Don't worry it's not too late to jump on the train. Maca is really easy to find nowadays. I don't think there is a health food store out there that wouldn't stock it. 

Maca is basically a root of a crop that grows in South America. Apparently this root is a part of the radish family. But what are the benefits of this root and so called superfood? Firstly maca is packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It's great for over all health and healthy skin. Maca is also used as a sexual booster and it has an ability to balances out hormones which makes it great for us women to enjoy. 

Today's recipe will of course include maca. I've been loving it together with lingonberries ever since I ordered a lingonberry maca smoothie at Roots Helsinki - I wrote a post about this amazing cafe here. I decided it was about time to go get my own jar of maca powder and make my own version of this delicious smoothie. I decided to eat mine out of a bowl, because smoothie bowls are more fun than regular smoothies. 

Lingonberry Maca Smoothie

vegan ● raw● gluten free● refined sugar free


2 Large frozen bananas

1 cup frozen lingonberries

0.5 tbsp maca powder

coconut milk


  1. Add all of the ingredients in a blender.

  2. Blend on high speed until thick and creamy with no lumps.

  3. Scoop into a bowl and top with your favourite things.

I topped mine with cloudberries, lingonberries, banana, shredded coconut and hemp seeds. So yum!
