I've been following Ashely and Brittany for quite a while. I still haven't got tired, no not at all. These girls whip up the most delicious smoothie bowls and when you have a twin sister everything good seems to come in two. Want to make delicious smoothies yourself? Keep reading.
Hi Ashley & Brittney, tell us all a little bit about yourselves.
Our names our Ashley and Brittney, we're twins and nineteen years old. We've always been very close and love doing almost everything together - including running a vegan food blog on Instagram called Twinskitchen. We absolutely love the beach and we're self-taught artists, so in our spare time we both love drawing.
You two run a beautiful and mouthwatering Instagram account and also have a Youtube channel. When and how did you get into cooking. How about plant based foods?
First of all thank you, we appreciate that! We both remember when we were younger how our dad would always call us into the kitchen to show us how to cook, and we'd begrudgingly go in to see what he was making. It wasn't until we decided to start eating healthier that my sister and I began to experiment with our own recipes. When we became vegan, we fell completely in love with cooking! We found it amazing how you can take so many wholesome, plant based ingredients and make such good meals, without animal products, fake sugars, preservatives! Our dad always said cooking is an art, and it is!
Name three must haves in your kitchen.
Bananas, almond milk, brown rice.
Breakfast, lunch or dinner? Why?
Breakfast!!! Breakfast has always been my sister and my favourite meal, mostly because it's the first meal of the day and were always excited to wake up and create a delicious healthy meal to fuel our day! We love enjoying a smoothie bowl with a cup of green tea while catching up on our blog or reading a book.
Would you like to share a favourite breakfast recipe?
Here is of our favourite breakfast smoothie, it's so energizing and helps you get a good serving of greens in:
vegan ● rfsf ● hclf
1 cup almond or coconut milk
1 large frozen banana
1 tsp maca powder
1 tsp matcha powder
1 tbsp chia seeds
1-2 large handfuls of spinach
1 tsp vanilla.
Simply blend and serve!
What would your perfect food day look like?
A perfect day for us could be spending all day swimming in the ocean, or simply a day spent with good friends who make you happy. That's really important to us.
You girls live in North Carolina, USA. Which places/cafes/restaurants/food shops must one visit while in town? Feel free to share your hidden gems.
If anyone is ever near Charlotte, go to Luna's Living Kitchen! They serve mostly raw vegan food and they are incredible! My sister and I go crazy there. Also, I work at a smoothie/juice bar called Clean Juice in Birkdale in Huntersville, we make incredible smoothies, juices, pressed juices, and acai bowls! Come visit me and I'll make you one!
We all have a sweet tooth, don't we? What do you prefer to have when you need that sweet kick?
Banana ice cream! It's incredibly good, healthy for you, and satisfies our sweet tooth every time! Try it blended with carob powder and you'll be addicted! Otherwise it's store bought coconut Ice cream: my sister and I have finished off a whole carton with no regrets! ;)
When I look at your photos I wish I'd also have a twin sister to whip up smoothies with. What are the secrets behind the perfect smoothie bowl? Feel free to share a favourite smoothie recipe as well.
We feel that the secret behind the perfect smoothie is simply having the right ingredients, and a good blender! My sister and I have had our fair share of bad smoothie combinations and struggles with garage sale blenders (talk about making banana ice cream impossible!). Really our best tip would be using fruits you love! Have fun and experiment until you find what you like. Another little tip we'd like to share is freezing your bananas instead of using fresh ones. We find it makes our smoothies perfect, and they come out thicker and creamier this way.

Ashley's favourite Carob Peanut Butter Smoothie

1 cup almond milk
1 frozen banana
2 tbsp carob powder
1 tbsp unsalted peanut butter
1 tbsp cacao nibs
1 medjool date
You two are obviously very inspiring young women. Where do you get your cooking inspiration from?
We get our inspiration from a lot of different things. A lot of times each other, sometimes different blogs, oh and Pinterest (definitely our addiction!). We find a lot of our inspiration from the vegan Instagram community, it's simply incredible and we're both so happy to be a part of it. We both find it so inspiring to see so many like-minded, compassionate people sharing what they love. Last but not least it would be our mom and dad. They're both great cooks, and while not vegan, our mom loves when we create vegan versions of her traditional recipes. It's always a fun challenge!
