Let's Talk About Natural + Cruelty Free Beauty

Veganism has made me realize that it isn't only about what I eat - it's about so much more than just that. During my first year as a vegan I have become way more conscious about all of the products that I use on my body, because what you put on your skin will end up in your blood stream and a lot of animal cruelty is involved in the mainstream beauty industry.

Now my first choice is natural and cruelty free products. From the toothpaste that I use to my make up. Changing up your whole beauty set up can be daunting at first and please don't put too much pressure on yourself. Use up your old products while you start looking into the world of natural and cruelty free beauty.

So what do I mean by natural products? Basically I don't want to use products with a whole bunch of nasty toxins and chemicals in them. Luckily the nature has provided some great solutions and I'm very happily surprised how well natural beauty products actually work. Sometimes they even do it better than the nasty stuff most of us use.

And what do I mean by cruelty free products? Well these products are vegan, which means there has been no animal cruelty involved in the process of making the product. Sadly there is still a lot of animal testing in the beauty industry and by choosing a cruelty free product the animal testing may one day become history. I also avoid beauty products with animal products in them, because I want to keep away from that stuff. If the product you picked up has a vegan label on it then you can be sure it doesn't contain any animal products.

To give you some inspiration I wanted to share the products that I use, most of them even on a daily basis. In case someone thinks this might be a sponsored post then no this is not, I'm only writing about these products because I truly enjoy using them and I love what they can do.

Stimulating & Refreshing Shampoo bar by Lush is my new absolute favourite thing in the shower. It's made of things like cinnamon, cloves and peppermint. Apparently the peppermint boost blood flow in the scalp which promotes healthy hair. The spices on the other hand soothes and calms the scalp. Not only does the hair smell delicious after each wash, but so does the bathroom. My boyfriend also thinks my hair looks shiny and healthy every time I was my hair with the bar.

Normal Daily Moisturising Shampoo by Eco Store is my go to shampoo. I'm a big fan of the company and most of our household products are by this brand as well. There's something about this shampoo that just cleans my hair very well and gently leaving it nice and moisturised (just as the name says) after every use. I also love that the packaging is made out of sugar cane and 100% recyclable.

Happy Hippy Shower Gel by Lush is something I always look forward to using. This shower gel has an amazingly fresh smell of grapefruit, bergamot and frankincense. The name says it all I become a happy hippy in the shower. I love how you can buy little 100g bottles of most products at Lush which makes them perfect for traveling as well.

Coconut & Vanilla Body Wash by Eco Store is a great soap. It's so gentle and the smell isn't too over powering either, although I wouldn't mind a bit more of my favourites coconut and vanilla. This product is made so that it doesn't strip the skin from its natural oils which means I can forget about body butters ect.

Body scrub has been a life saver for me. I suffer from blemishes on my body (I'm lucky to have clear skin on my face) sometimes and by scrubbing my body a few times a week has really made a difference. The one I'm using right now is the Coffee Scrubboccino Body Scrub by Toby and Rosie. I love the smell of the coffee when I rub it on to my skin. Other beautiful ingredients in this body scrub are epsom salts, macadamia oil, sweet almond oil, cacao and rosemary oil. Another great body scrub that has done miracles on my skin is the Polished All Over Scrub by Delicious Skin (not pictured) made of beautiful things like - raw sugar + brown sugar + sweet almond oil + vanilla + orange essential oil. This scrub smells like the dream.

Crystal Deodorant Spray by Deonat is the first natural deodorant that actually works for me. I went through a whole bunch of bad ones until I heard about crystal deodorants - I wish someone would have told me earlier about them! I personally prefer the spray version because it's less messy than the traditional crystal. How it works is that the natural mineral salts of the crystal prevents odor.

We all know how important it is to protect your skin from the sun, but what you might not know that the normal sun screen you put on your body is bad for the ocean reefs. This was something I wanted to keep in mind when I was looking for a natural sun screen. Luckily Australia has some great options on the market. My pick is the Natural Coconut Sun Screen by Eco Tan. This sunscreen uses natural zinc to create a physical barrier on the skin that deflects sun rays. It works great and has an SPF of + 30. What else? It smells like coconut which makes everything just ten times better. This product is on the pricier side, but in my opinion it's well worth the investment.

Most days I wash my face with only water since this works for me and I don't like to stress my skin. I do love using the Clean Butter Cleanser by Delicious Skin (not pictured) on days when I feel like I want to give my face a really good clean. This cleanser really gets all of my make up off and leaves the face moisturized.

Let me start by saying I'm not big on make up in any way. Most days I ware a little bit mascara and concealer and that's pretty much it.

I wouldn't usually go for something like the Uplifting Treatment by Flora Remedia, but something about it just made me fall in love. The description says - 'Soothing and centering, balancing towards moods. Particularly uplifting and energizing. Rich, warm, strong, chai scent'. It's just a simply beautiful darker smell that I love rolling on to my skin made of essential oils.

Pure Vanilla by Lavanila is my go to scent. It smells strongly of vanilla and it's just wonderful. Made with all natural and organic ingredients without any of the harsh chemicals most perfumes are made with. If you haven't heard of Lavanila yet I definitely recommend you check this brand out.

I've quite recently discovered the German natural make up brand Lavera that is vegan and uses one hundred percent organic ingredients. They do good quality products for a reasonable price. I really like using the Natural Concealer for my every day make up needs. I've also got the Fine Loose Mineral Powder and Compact Mineral Powder for special occasions. I like how these products feel very light on the skin and they have a very natural finish.

Another great natural vegan make up brand is Pacifica. I can't praise their products enough. My all time favourite concealer is Pacifica's Transcendent Concentrated Concealer - it covers perfectly and is long lasting. One of the key ingredient in this concealer is coconut water for moisture and skin loving vitamins. Another one is ginseng extract that nourishes, protects and supports circulation. I just love the sound of this all.

Sunkissed Bronzer by Natio gives my face that extra punch of colour. I'm not an expert for what a good bronzer is like, but I feel like this one does the job. I apply it with one of my Ecotool Brushes - made out of recycled aluminum and renewable bamboo.

For a little bit of extra high light I use my Golden Lotus Highlighter from Pacifica, because let's be honest the best look out there is the one where you glow from the inside out.

Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mascara by Pacifica is the best mascara I've ever used - cruelty free or non cruelty free - natural or non natural. This mascara is truly amazing and I can't speak highly enough about it. I just simply adore it. The mascara contains coconut oil and vitamin B for hydration and strength to the lashes. Bring it on natural beauty!

I  also use Natio's Define Eye Brow Pencil (not pictured) with jojoba oil on my eyebrows to keep them in place. I just like this specific pen because the colour is like made for my eyebrows and oh how well it lasts.

I use lip balm every day. My absolute favourite brand is Hurraw! I can't get enough of their Coconut Lip Balm and the Black Cherry Lip Balm is great when you want a bit of colour on your lips (or cheeks). These balms are special because they are made out of raw, organic and fair trade ingredients. If you haven't tried these balms yet you're missing out.

I'm also loving Delicious Skin's Cacao Mint Silky Lip Salve which pretty much tastes like mint chocolate on your lips. The ingredients in this balm are just fenomenal and the result is so smooth.

Lavera's Color Intense Lipstick - Timeless Red is there for me on the nights when I want to feel a little bit more fancy. I feel like most girls own a red lipstick so I decided I needed one too. I'm very happy with the quality of this lipstick speaking of how good it's for the lips with key ingredients like jojoba oil, shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter, almond oil, argan oil and olive oil.

So there you have it! I hope this was helpful in some way. Most of these products can probably be bought online if they don't sell them in your country. You may also find similar products and this post could work as  background inspiration for your own natural and cruelty free beauty journey.

I'd also love to hear if you have any favourite natural and cruelty free beauty recommendations. I'm always happy to discover wonderful new products.

Lots of love xx,
