Super Powders Give You Super Powers

In this post I will be sharing all of the super food powders that you can ALWAYS find in my pantry. I use some of them weekly, if not daily, on the side of a well balansed plant based diet.

Super foods are foods that contain very high quantities of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and other health-boosting goodies compared to 'normal' foods.

I just want to point out that I'm in no means a professional when it comes to giving nutritional advice. I'm only sharing things from my personal experience. I have chosen to implement these powders in my diet based on my own research . I highly recommend you do your own research.

First up we have spirulina. I personally have a love hate relationship with this dark green powder because of its taste. I recommend you start with a very small teaspoon of spirulina and add more as you go and get used to it.

So, what is spirulina and why do I like to use it? Spirulina is a powder made out of an algae. You can get plenty of B vitamins, iron, proteins and calcium to mention a few.

One thing that makes spirulina really interesting is its property to bind heavy metals in the body and help to remove them. This is thanks to the heavily packed chlorophyll that helps remove toxins from our blood. I've also heard spirulina great when it comes to curing a hangover, not something I can prove as I don't consume much alcohol.

My tip: Add spirulina to berry smoothies or green smoothies. It's especially hard to taste in a smoothie packed with raspberries.

I can not start my day without a cup of matcha latte. Matcha is a green tea powder

What makes this green tea powder so great? Matcha is packed with antioxidants. It has more than a hundred times more antioxidants than regular green tea that you would drink. It's also said that you get the properties of ten cups of green tea in one cup of matcha tea.

Why I like drinking matcha especially in the morning is because it's said to calm the mind, boost the mood and help us get better at concentrating. Two things that an University student needs.

If you're trying to avoid caffeine matcha sadly isn't for you as this green powder does contain caffeine.

My tip: Try out my matcha latte recipe here.

Cacao is the pure form of grownded cacao bean. Try avoiding cocoa powder as it's much more processed and doesn't contain many nutrients.

Raw cacao is packed with antioxidants, surprise, surprise. It's also packed with iron, calcium and magnesium. What makes cacao so great is that it's a natural mood booster as well as when it comes to controlling hormonal mood swings. Maybe try make a cup of hot chocolate instead of your morning coffee?

It's also said that cacao is love food or so called aphrodisiac. Who doesn't want an extra love boost every now and then? Cacao in some form is a must on romantic date nights.

My tip: Add a tbsp of raw cacao to your breakfast porridge. Other great ways of using this powder is in chocolaty desserts or thick indulgent smoothies.

Barely grass is a green powder that I like adding into mt smoothies. This might sound like nothing to you, but let me tell you this sweet tasting green powder is packed with goodies.

Barley grass is the younger green shots before it grows into the barley plant that is often used for its grain. These young straws of grass are packed with nutrients. For example vitamin A, a few types of vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin K can be found in barley grass. As well as magnesium, zink, iron and calcium. You'll also find that barley grass is full of protein and antioxidants.

Do I need to say more? Barley grass simply is a great overall booster to out health.

My tip: Add a spoonful of barley grass powder to a green smoothie. Make your green smoothie more delicious by adding frozen mango and lime juice.

Maca powder is made out of the Maca root, which is a vegetable that mainly grows in the Andes of Peru.

I personally really like the taste of maca, but apparently some people really dislike the taste. That's why it's probably good to try it out in smaller quantities first. A smoothie is probably the easiest way to consume maca powder.

Why do I use maca? Well, firstly maca is know to be good at balancing female hormones as well as female sexual health in general. Maca will also give you extra energy, improve your memory and boost your mood. Like all the other powders above Maca is also packed with antioxidants.

My tip: Try my chocolate maca overnight oats with chocolate cashew cream here. A really delicious way to get some maca in your life.
